The Institute & War Memorial Hall, Limehaed St Breward PL30 4LU

The Hall opened as a Reading Room in 1909 with the War Memorial Hall being added in 1923. (this part of the Hall which was was built by local stone apprentices is a memorial to those who served in WWI and is a listed War Memorial.

Over the years the Hall has been known as many different names and used by many local organisations for a wide variety of activities and events including the Doctor’s Surgery from the start of the NHS in 1948 to the Autumn of 1988 with the footway from the Hall to Mount Pleasant being known as Doctor’s Lane.

Improvements were  carried out in 1993 to enable the  Hall to be used one day a week as a Day Centre, and in 2013  the Hall closed for eight months to allow for full restoration to take place.  Currently the Trustees run  a weekly Art Group, a twice monthly Community Cafe, a twice monthly Singing Group (more Karaoke than Choir!) a monthly Family History Research Group and a monthly Community Cinema, plus regular IT Sessions.  The Hall is also home to the Parish Council and Parish Archives which are in the care of the History Group.

Facilities and Equipment The Hall consists of two large rooms linked by a corridor which gives access to the small kitchen and two toilet cubicles one of which has enabled facilities and  baby changing unit.  The Hall has superfast wifi in both main rooms. 

The Reading Room is light and and comfortable with far reaching views across to the coast, the four windows  fitted with blinds and curtains.  This room is equipped with tables and chairs, a wall mounted Samsung  85inch wall monitor,  Denon Receiver, speakers and a wifi mic.  Comfortable for approx 36 people

The War Memorial Room is currently set up for the Moorland Community Cinema with a 12ft screen, Denon Receiver, wall mounted Epsom Projector and surround sound.  With the tiered seating the ‘ Cinema seats about 36.  With prior notice this room can be set up for use with tables and  chairs.

Free standing display boards are available for use in both rooms

The small kitchen is well equipped for the preparation and service of light refurbishments for about 36 people:  Two water boilers and two kettles, microwave, small fridge, chopping boards, knives, serving utensils, jugs (for water and milk), crockery (large, medium and small plate, pudding and soup bowls). cutlery and glassware, trays and tea towels. With prior notice we can make available: two induction hobs (soup), several slow cookers, baskets for rolls, small pots suitable for butter/prawn cocktails/ice cream and so on
